Woodstock 2009: A Slow Learning Curve?

Anonyme, Wednesday, August 5, 2009 - 20:10 ( | | | | | )

One generalization, that unfortunately holds true for “many” musicians and rock bands is, despite the fact they often have potentially huge audiences (the marketer’s dream), is that they often have little, if anything, intelligent and insightful to say about social and political issues. But more specifically, they will not likely assert the likelihood—that U.S. sponsored torture of Islamic prisoners has probably rendered “zero” results of quality or worthwhile intelligence (save perhaps what “Israeli” objectives might have wanted).

Israel-Palestine: Naomi Klein and the Boycott Movement (video from Bil'in)

Michael Lessard, Tuesday, July 14, 2009 - 17:21 ( | | | | | | )

Prior to the demonstration a press conference took place, where a representative of the village's popular committee, a member of the Palestinian Boycott National Committee and world renowned Canadian journalist and author Naomi Klein spoke of the local struggle, of the village's new court case in Canada against Canadian companies building the new neighborhoods on Bil'in land, on the boycott, and of the inability to detach art and politics.

Also: below is an article about Klein's views on the boycott.

Contest: "Libertarian Pedagogy” (Spanish)

Anonyme, Sunday, May 31, 2009 - 04:38 ( | | | )

“Reflections, analysis and proposals for libertarian pedagogy today”

The libertarian movement from the beginning emphasized the importance of education as a means of human emancipation. With just changing a person, his/her way of thinking and feeling, one could change this society; with just teaching values such as mutual aid, solidarity, cooperation, comradeship, one could overcome social dogmas like sick competition, hierarchization or selfishness. With the passage of time, due to the indefatigable work which a lot of libertarians did, these libertarian values were gradually included in different educational systems worldwide.

Islamic Divorce in US Courts

Anonyme, Wednesday, April 22, 2009 - 00:44 ( | | | | )

Many Muslim American men travel to foreign countries to obtain quick Islamic divorce. Most often the husband who goes to a foreign country leaves his wife, property and children in the United States. This type of divorce may be valid in the foreign country but it is not necessary valid in the United States.

A Response to Paul Eisen's "Jewish Power"

4ravache, Sunday, March 8, 2009 - 04:13 ( | | | | | )

Joel R. Finkel

“Edward Said spent a lifetime picking his way through the Israel/Zionism/Judaism minefield and never once criticised Jews…” so writes Paul Eisen near the end of his essay, “Jewish Power.” Would that the same could be said of Eisen, who, it seems, did not learn from Said and intends in this work to correct his little oversight. Without presenting any facts, Eisen spends some fifteen pages simply asserting his argument, which amounts to something classic anti-Semites could embrace (and have[1]): Jews are very clever, successful people who have taken control of major sections of the U.S. ruling class and are formulating a U.S. foreign policy that is consistent with “Jewish interests.”

The Dark Night or NeoCon Artist:

Anonyme, Sunday, January 11, 2009 - 18:54 ( | | | )

by Gary Gray

One wonders why so many in the media and film industry are in such frenzy over Christopher Nolan’s film “The Dark Night”? Granted the movie is good, and in some ways great, but still the plot is really no more ingenious that what passes for standard fare on Law and Order. So why is it that the Powers-that-Be is such a tizzy?

No doubt a fair share has to do with it portending to hold a mirror up to post-9/11 society—with a major theme of how terror can corrupt those that fear and fight terrorism.
