An article from The Guardian says that "Modified genes from crops in a GM crop trial have transferred into local wild plants, creating a form of herbicide-resistant 'superweed'".

What worse, in Canada crop rotation has conferred multi-herbicide resistance to some of the weeds!

Anonyme, Saturday, August 2, 2003 - 11:12 ( | | | | | )

A large group of us, I would say 300 or 400 people, were simply standing or sitting in this area, some of us trying to find food, others planning what to do next, when we heard from others who were observing the area that the cops were coming and that we should consider leaving.

Satisfaction Not Guaranteed - WTO In Montreal

Anonyme, Saturday, August 2, 2003 - 11:07 ( | | | | | )

In early June, Canada's trade minister, Pierre Pettigrew exultantly announced the death of the "anti-globalization" movement. "I draw great satisfaction out of the fact that the phenomenon of anti-globalization has completely disappeared", he crowed. On the eve of this week's World Trade Organization informal mini-ministerial in downtown
Montreal, he was singing a different tune.

NO PATENTS ON BIOTECHNOLOGY PRODUCTS

vieuxcmaq, Friday, October 6, 2000 - 11:00 ( | | )

No country is self-sufficient in biodiversity. The WTO is seeking an appropriate legal framework to encourage trade. But appropriate for whom? There's the rub. The intellectual property system, which champions the breeders' interests, is becoming an instrument of neo-colonialism. The Organisation of African Unity, offering an alternative that is in the public interest as well as its own, has taken the lead in new thinking about the exploitation of life.
